Montecito is an unincorporated town in Santa Barbara County, California
Whereas other California residential real estate markets are very developed today, Montecito has developed in a very different way. The existing estates located in this community are primarily from the late 19th and early 20th century and were established as private retreats due to the area's dominant agricultural, coastal ranching, and railroad wealth development in Southern California. Montecito's site plan includes large land parcels, winding roads, beautiful native landscaping and homes that are purposely hidden from the street and surrounding area.
This historical context continues to influence logistics today.
Many properties located in Montecito may have long hedged driveways, gated entries, narrow tree-lined roads near places like East Valley Road and Hot Springs Road, and/or hillside corridors that overlook the coast. Old homes do not typically have the attributes that allow large trucks to access or deliver large amounts of goods, as is the case with newer homes. Also, many of these mature oak trees, stone entrances, detached guest houses, and uneven ground will each present their own unique challenges for moving to and from these types of older properties.
Montecito's projects at Bystroff Moving usually take more time to coordinate than to load on moving day (usually 4-6 days). Critical components in this process are access schedule, staging area, driveway clearance, and protecting the landscape and historical architecture. Some houses have a mix of contemporary interiors with their own furnishings/art/objects passed down from family members over the years while some require moving between different homes within California such as Montecito, Los Angeles & San Francisco or seasonal homes elsewhere.
Moving in Montecito is less about distance and more about property conditions. Common factors include:
For this reason, Montecito relocations are typically approached as coordinated property transitions rather than standard residential moves.
Moving from: ***2 E Valley Rd, Santa Barbara, CA 93108
Moving to: **0 Hot Springs Rd, Montecito, CA 93108
Info 🛤️ The move took place from Two Montecito houses, each property is on a different side of the building. One house's driveway is too small and has trees all over it whereas the other house will not be finished in time for direct delivery; therefore, deliveries need to occur on site until the Other House is finished.
The transfer included all kinds of big wood furniture, antique cabinets, framed artwork, and garden furniture that had all been damaged by the sea. The entire movement was handled in multiple day intervals, allowing for items to be moved as different portions were ready to be moved into their final location.
1. Coordinated delivery around active interior renovation work
2. Multiple interior spaces packed out in phases
3. Protection of custom 1880 French and English antiques tables and armchairs
Plan 🎯 Prior to the move day, the property access and staging areas were assessed so that larger vehicles could access and reposition them without damaging landscaping and not blocking off the narrow driveway. The relocation was then broken down into various phases according to which areas of the destination property were able to receive furniture and/or artwork.
The items in the guest house, as well as those found outside the home, were packed and itemized separately from those found in the main house to facilitate the reorganization when they arrive. Large pieces of furniture and cabinetry were loaded carefully to minimize the amount of moving that would need to be done between the two structures when unloading. Delivery time was coordinated carefully to allow for interior construction to progress as each room was completed, while avoiding the overcrowding of the property with boxes and furniture all at once.
Result ✅ During the relocation of many items, there were a number of pieces that required special care during transport, including English antiques, vintage Baker dining room furniture and restored mid-century Knoll and Herman Miller furniture. Larger custom pieces, natural solid wood tables and older furniture with fragile finishes were delivered directly to their final locations, thus eliminating any further handling or temporary stacking.
A process was created through each completed section of an area of the estate which allowed homeowners to be continually settling into their home rather than having the frustration of having to do it all at once.

Hear from Our Satisfied Clients
We had Bystroff team pack up all of our belongings, including a large amount of very fragile glassware, and transport it more than 1700 miles to our new home. Everything arrived intact, and in clearly labeled boxes so we knew what to unpack first and what to leave for later in the week. They were also very patient working through a last minute complication involving my old building's HOA, and we were able to get everything done on schedule and delivered on the morning of the target day. Highly recommended!

We had a fantastic experience with Bystroff Moving for our move from San Francisco to Tahoe. From the initial consult call. On the day of the move, everyone on the team was professional and extremely efficient. The price we were quoted is what we paid, and there were no hidden surprises. We would strongly recommend Bystroff and will happily work with them again for our next move!

Very careful with furniture and incredibly efficient.
I would highly recommend them to anyone moving.
Their team helped us out in a clutch when previous movers had cancelled the same day! They wrapped up an earlier job and hustled on over for my family's job. We had so many boxes and a solid amount of furniture, including a soul cycle bike that had to be handled very delicately! It was like watching ninjas work. The move was pretty seamless thanks to Bystroff Moving.

They did a great job! I moved from the east bay down to SoCal. Even with some challenges they had, they figured it out and quickly solved the problem without any impact to my timing and no change in his moving quote. There is a good company standards and truly backs them up! No surprises and they were very accommodating to anything I needed their help with! Very happy with their services! And I have moved many times, hiring movers. This was by far my best experience.

They loaded all contents of our 2 storage units in the truck like a well oiled machined. It was like watching a game of Tetris. They literally used up all available space on the truck. I was always kept in the loop on their progress.
We hired Bystroff Moving Co and they were incredibly helpful, clear communication and diligent with our move. They wrapped everything and made sure to take care of our fragile furniture. We were so impressed! Anytime our friends move in the Bay Area we always recommend them.
